Ray
Columbus has enjoyed more than four decades at the top of New Zealand
entertainment. As a singer, songwriter, bandleader, TV star
et al. ‘ENTERTAINER’ is the most appropriate title.
He has won every major award in NZ show business and was the FIRST Pop
star in the British Commonwealth to be awarded an Order of the British
Empire (OBE) for Services to New Zealand.
Ray has starred in three Royal Command Performance Concerts (one as Top
of the bill and Master of Ceremonies) and more than 1,000 television
shows in Australasia, often as the host.
Ray Columbus OBE has had over 14 Hit Records including
International Hits –
She’s A Mod (with the Invaders - the first
NZ record to hit #1 in Australia) and Till We Kissed (#1 in NZ / top 10 in Australia / top 60 pick in the USA’s Billboard
magazine). Others include People Are

Ray toured in concert with Roy
Orbison, The Rolling Stones, Tom Jones, Herman’s Hermits, The
Searchers, Del Shannon, Shirley Bassey, Gladys Knight & The
Pips, Gene McDaniel’s, Ben E King, The Hollies, Robin Gibb, The
Turtles, Eric Burdon & the Animals and in 2002,
he toured with the sell-out Long Way To The Top - the history of Australian Rock N Roll – show, which saw him perform
to over 220,000 people in 20 arena concerts throughout Australia.
He repertoire spans from Presley to Sinatra, from Diamond to Jolson to
Aznavour, and, of course, includes his own hits.
Ray only sings the songs that inspire him and they often cross into
other genres like Country and R&B. Whether the songs
are from the 60s, 90s or present day they are all hits.
